All the collective mass hysteria on Anna Hazare made me inquisitive like most people . People are hailing it as a peoples movement brought about by activists, social media and Twitter . Some have even compared it with Egypt. Seriously? How is it even similar? We are a complete democracy to start with and this seems like an undemocratic action. In our enthusiasm to promote new age media are we blinded ? Corruption is definitely the root cause of most problems that ail our homeland but I doubt if this is the way to go.
I agree with the view point in the article ...that most of us did not even know whats on that bill when we promoted it.
I do not want to take away from some of the achievements , dedication and hard work of this man. He dedicated his entire life to the cause he believed in. But this is also the same guy who banned stuff and forced people into vasectomy oaths over the years. When he adopted and took upon himself to reform a forgotten village he banned television in that village. The intentions might be right to improve productivity and impose family planning. And over the years the village flourished too. But at its core it also counts as an attempt to isolate these people from whats happening around the world and forcefully changing their way of life. (most dictators started as messiahs?). I am not sure how it would be a democracy if the right to choose is taken away from the body that we elected.
Voting for worthy candidates and making sure that there ARE worthy candidates to vote for should be a better solution than arm twisting the government? I think promoting responsibility, education , literacy and widening their horizon or view point is the best that can be done if we want to see some long term improvement while maintaining our democracy. More like equipping people to make that informed decision.
Even as educated people if we are so eager to jump to conclusions based on tag lines/titles rather than the body of the article, then we are choosing bills the same way we are choosing our governments?

This is my view. I would like to know yours too ....

Completely agree. Nicely done. In addition to promoting literacy, etc, what we need is better enforcement of laws/bills that are already there.
